Abstract

One of the most challenging issues faced by the ummah is to build the unity among them. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) has proven to the world how a separated community can achieve unity and solidarity although they live in diverse, conflicts and disputes for decades. When the Prophet (p.b.u.h) first arrived on the fertile soil of Medina he gave his welcoming words to all of its citizens. This narration of him can be considered as the basic principle in building the unity among ummah and humankind. The objective of this paper is to analyse the philosophy of this first narration. The analysis will also conclude some interpretations of the Quran and other sayings of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) to give light to the philosophy of the narration. It will initially discuss the source and authority of the narration before further discussing the philosophy. Then, the paper concluded three aspects of philosophy from the narration in order to build unity; external acceptance, internal acceptance and the importance of heart purification.
