Abstract

The number of private institutions of higher learning is increasing today due to the high demand among students who wish to pursue higher education at the tertiary level. The diversity of programs offered requires an increase in the number of academic staff to fulfill the requirements of teaching and learning, research and consultations, supervision as well as conducted by other public educational institutions. However, the academic workforce in private institutions of higher learning may be quite different because the sustainability of these institutions depends on their finances, the wisdom of top management, and the efficiency of the implementing group, including academicians. The objective of this study is to see what characteristics of an academician are required to select the best academician candidates and be able to contribute with fully committed to the university. This study refers entirely to previous studies about the characteristics of high-quality academicians for a university to select a candidate who is qualified to fulfill the requirements of the academic workforce.
