The nose-diving performance in the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA 2022, is a wake-up call to power up the people manning the education sector. The study analysed and identified the alarming situations signalling the urgent need for rectification based on the empirical data acquired over 30 years. The analysis points to evidence of fake claims of performance in academia as the main hub of human resource development and the primary factor that shadows the loopholes of education quality. Springboarding from there, the study recommends steps for the betterment of the sector. Qualitative assessment of academic staff via restorative assessment (RES-Q) measure assimilating the functional from the dysfunctional academics is the identified first step. Functionality, in this regard, is defined by the functions aligned to the fulfilment of national needs. Local universities' declining popularity prompted RES-Q map construction for root cause-to-solution to uplift the education sector. Detailing educator assessment needs leads to RES-Q inquisitive analysis to detect and fix issues without derailing from the national strategic alignment (NSA). Deploying RES-Q today should empower educators and in turn, revive learners’ interests in tertiary education. Through the corrected cycle of critical mass, the reshuffling of academics based on their dominant strengths must be pursued. The talent appropriation strategy is commensurate with the gratefulness in Islamic morality that simultaneously forbids the waste of resources.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/167Development and Validity of Arabic Muamalat Module (M~BAM) for Islamic Finance Higher Education Learning Program2024-07-29T22:56:50+08:00Ahmad Farid Fadhli Mustafafarid@usas.edu.myMuhammad Anas Al Muhsinanas@fbk.upsi.edu.myZulkifli Osmanzulkifli@fbk.upsi.edu.my
The objective of this paper is to develop an Arabic Muamalat Module (M~BAM) and evaluate its effectiveness in improving mastery of Arabic related to muamalat. This module is constructed using the ADDIE model, which consists of five development phases. The study design is descriptive, employing a quantitative approach. The instrument used for the study is the module content-validation assessment form. The module underwent validation by seven experts in validity assessment, comprising lecturers from both public and private universities as well as Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) lecturers. All possess expertise in module development, Arabic content, and pedagogy. The results of the experts' validity assessment indicate that the module is relevant and usable, with a mean score of 4.29. It can be concluded that a meticulous approach to developing the M~BAM module is required for Islamic finance students, aligning with educational standards, and employing diverse teaching methods. With a focus on authentic dialogue and comprehensive exercises, the module promises effective Arabic language acquisition and enhanced understanding of muamalat concepts. The M~BAM module exhibits strong alignment with course objectives, facilitating effective learning in muamalat and Islamic finance. Technical validity assessments emphasize the significance of visual elements for engagement and comprehension, recommending enhancements accordingly. It is recommended that improvements for module usage, such as conducting pre- and post-tests is required.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/168The Implications of the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877-1878 on the Muslim Minorities in Bulgaria: Reports from the British Documents2024-07-29T23:02:44+08:00Siti Alwaliyah Mansoralwaliyah@uum.edu.myAzlizan Mat Enhazlizan@ukm.edu.mySuffian Mansorsmansor@ukm.edu.myAl-Amril Othmanamril@ukm.edu.my
The Russo-Ottoman war that broke out in 1877-1878 was aimed at solving the issue of Ottoman administration in the Balkans, especially regarding the alleged weakness of the Ottoman administration over the Christian people in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Ironically, the war had a more significant impact on Muslims in the Balkans, especially in Bulgaria, than the solution to the issue in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This article analyzes on how the war has had implications on the Muslim minority population in Bulgaria. This article uses a qualitative method approach which involves the content analysis of British official documents and records collected from the British National Archives and the University of London from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies. The findings proved that the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877 was not intended to give justice to the Christian community under the Ottoman empire but was a strategy of the Russia and Bulgarian governments to carry out ethnic cleansing on the Muslim minority in Bulgaria. The implication of this war led to widespread oppression and mass expulsion of the Muslim population in Bulgaria, resulting in significant demographic changes and a prolonged humanitarian crisis. For future research, it is suggested that an in-depth examination be conducted on the roles and positions of other European powers in the Russo-Ottoman conflict of 1877, particularly regarding their attitudes and reactions towards the fate of the Muslim population in Bulgaria.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/169Adolescent Mental Health Interventions: A Review of Psychological and an Islamic Approach2024-07-29T23:07:11+08:00Samsiah Mohd Jaissamsiah@fpm.upsi.edu.myNorasyikin Mohaiyuddinasyikinm@uum.edu.myMohammad Nasir Bistamamnasir@usas.edu.myMohammad Aziz Shah Mohamed Aripaziz.shah@fpm.upsi.edu.myMohamad Khairi Othmanm_khairi@uum.edu.my
Mental health programs among adolescents are conducted with various approaches based on the program's objectives and the target population's needs which impact mental health and well-being. The average study conducted found that the mastery of the Arabic language (BA) in Malaysia is still not able to achieve real goals and objectives. One of the factors affecting language skills is extralinguistics. Extralinguistics refers to linguistic situations outside the linguistic environment, such as motivation, emotion, attitude, personality, and the like, that are proven to help a student master a particular language. Therefore, this study identifies extralinguistic factors on BA Communication among Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia students in Perak. This study was conducted quantitatively at Sekolah Menengah Agama Negeri (SMAN) which offers learning to sit for the Sijil Tinggi Agama (STAM) examination in the state of Perak. Results indicated that there are five extralinguistic factors on BA Communication, namely attitude, motivation, Arabic exposure, use of BA, Communication problems and teacher encouragement. It can be concluded that there is a strong relationship between attitude factors and the use of SK among students of STAM Perak. This study implies the importance of providing a conducive and supportive learning environment to improve Arabic communication skills among STAM students. Further studies are proposed to examine in depth the factors related to the use of technology in Arabic language learning and the impact on the communication strategies of STAM students.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/171Impak Pendekatan Terjemahan Terhadap Kualiti Penterjemahan Eufemisme al-Quran ke Bahasa Melayu2024-07-29T23:16:52+08:00Muhammad Luqman Ibnul Hakim Mohd Saadluqman701@uitm.edu.myNurazan Mohmad Rouyannurazan@unisza.edu.my
Translation of the Quran into Malay poses challenges due to cultural and linguistic factors. Among the difficulties faced by translators are conveying the true meaning of Quranic euphemisms and thoroughly examining the linguistic rules within society. Therefore, the application of appropriate translation methods is significant for producing high-quality works. This study was conducted to identify the impact of translation approach on the quality of the translation of Quranic euphemisms into Malay. This qualitative study was conducted by adapting the Euphemisms Translation Evaluation Model in the Quran (MPPEQ) by Olimat (2018) and Newmark's (1981) Semantic & Communicative theory. In this study, the researcher applied content analysis methods, focusing on six samples of Quranic euphemisms listed in the Corpus of Euphemism in the Quran by Olimat (2019). Four translations of the Quran into Malay were selected as study materials. The findings indicate that the applied translation approaches result in two impacts: successful translations and less successful ones. Consequently, the success and imperfection of translations depend on the approach used and the choice of words. The findings also demonstrate that methods incorporating additional explanatory insertions sometimes cause confusion in meaning due to functional lexical factors. Furthermore, maintaining the source text's register can be applied when there are similarities in linguistic and cultural elements within society. The study also found translations that do not retain the euphemistic style, resulting in discourse implications of dysphemism. In conclusion, the study has explored new dimensions related to the concept of euphemism in the Quran and its translation approaches into Malay.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/172Pendekatan Pembelajaran al-Ghazali dan Kesannya Terhadap Pencapaian Tahap Kefahaman Membaca Bahasa Melayu Dalam Kalangan Murid Sekolah Menengah2024-07-29T23:21:23+08:00Sofia Hani Izyan Mohd Sopiansofiahanizyan@yahoo.com.mySimah Mamatsimah@um.edu.myFadzilah Abd Rahmanfadzilah.rahman@city.edu.my
This quasi-experimental study aims to identify the effects of al-Ghazali's learning approach as an alternative approach to improve the level of reading comprehension in the teaching and learning of Malay. This study was conducted for six weeks in a day secondary school. A total of 59 fourth grade students, 33 experimental group students and 26 control group students have almost the same performance in Malay. Data were analyzed using Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 25.0. There was a significant difference in the post-test score for the overall achievement of reading comprehension between the experimental group and the control group, namely the pre-test mean (58.18) and the post-test mean (71.76) in the experimental group that received treatment. While for the control group that used the conventional approach treatment also showed an increase in the achievement of reading comprehension with a pre-test mean of 58.69, and a post-test mean of 62.92. Both groups had an increase in reading comprehension, but the experimental group obtained a higher mean score (13.58) than the control group (4.23). In conclusion, al-Ghazali's learning approach can help improve the achievement of Malay reading comprehension at school. The implication of the study is that the alternative approach needs to be adapted by the teacher according to the student's abilities. The findings also provide guidance to the Ministry of Education and Culture to improve the Malay curriculum and the appropriate approach in improving student performance.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIAhttp://jurnal.usas.edu.my/gjat/index.php/journal/article/view/173Rima Aliterasi dan Asonansi sebagai Sumber Ritma Linguistik Surah Fatihah yang Mensinkroni Gelombang Otak2024-07-29T23:26:51+08:00Samhani Ismailsamhanismail@unisza.edu.myAndri Abdurrochmana.abdurrochman@unpad.ac.idMajdan Paharal Radzimajdan@unisza.edu.my
Sound rhythm is one of the factors that make the sound of the Holy Quran rhythmic and synchronous that change the rhythm of human brain waves. Analyzing the discourse of modernity and the issues raised therein, the researcher attempts to answer the following questions: what effect-if any- does one’s stance on religious heritage have on the study of family-related issues? what are the flaws of the modernists with respect to the family? what are the alternative perceptions that Islam presents concerning family values and legislation? To answer these questions- and to achieve the objective of his study- the researcher has used a descriptive as well as a comparative approach. In conclusion, the study has found that the flaws of the modernist approach, which adopts western secular concepts and values on a universal scale, can be traced back to its rejection of any cultural particularities stemming from religious heritage. That is why it fails to acknowledge or explain the changes witnessed in daily life in Muslim societies. Understandably, an explanation of such changes cannot be reduced exclusively to a material worldview. Identifying some features of such shortcomings, the researcher has referred to the modernists’ rejection of value-based family cohesion, and how they see it as a source of violation to women's rights. Or worse still, they see it as a form of stereotyping the gender roles in line with religious rulings. On the positive side, the study outlined some features of an alternative methodology from within the Islamic worldview- to address the issues of parent education, family upbringing based on dialogue, equality among family members, and women’s freedoms, which modernists usually raise. The study ends by urging researchers to conduct further case studies on a specific country or family institutions. The focus of such works should be on evaluating the content of the modernist discourse in international agreements, and its impact on women and children, on the identity of the family, as well as its functions and characteristics from the perspective of cultural differences among nations.
2024-07-30T23:37:19+08:00Methaq Sadeq Mahmud Almulikim.almalik@el-css.edu.omAhmad Omar Omar Al-Ahdalahmadalahdal2@gmail.comIrwan Mohd Subriirwan@usim.edu.my
The study aims to clarify the consequences of the fatwas of Sheikh al-Buti in the Syrian events. The researcher followed an inductive and analytical approach to examine the fatwas, collect texts, and opinions of scholars related to these fatwas from reliable sources. The study analyzed these opinions and examined their consequences from the perspective of Islamic law. The study concluded with several findings, including:Al-Buti followed the approach of early scholars in tracing the consequences of rulings.Al-Buti's stance on the uprising and rebellion against the ruler is complete rejection, adhering to the principles of Islamic law. Al-Buti believes that rebellion against the ruler is permissible if the ruler openly commits kufr (disbelief). He believes that rebellion against the ruler is not permissible when the rebels do not rely on a legitimate Islamic basis. Demonstrations and marches are forbidden because they are a path and a pretext for opening a confrontation, a path to killing and committing forbidden acts, facilitating the way for external aggression to control the country, and blocking the means is a religious obligation.
2024-07-31T11:08:34+08:00Daad Rashrash Alnaserdaad-alnaser@uaeu.ac.ae
The study revolves around the intertextuality orbit in terms of its systemic attachment with cultural critique, where this rhetoric approach assumes a rhetoric capacity that exceeds the deliberative dimensions which are based on showing the poetic aspect of intertextuality and its ability to express the ideas of the text and that is done through creating a new post for it. This post is known as the systemic post and is originally associated with cultural critique and is based on procedural tools designed to create the cultural trick through which the profound meaning is passed. The meaning which Strauss added to the hidden meaning and Iceberger drafted in the underlying structure of the text. The study followed the possibility of this post manifesting itself in Arabic rhetoric and the western intertextuality theory, and did not find a clear impact. Therefore, it assumes that this post is new to intertextuality and this assumption is proven by an applied study which has been conducted on a creative text from the Abbasid Era. This text is Sahl bin Haroun’s letter on stinginess. The research concluded after careful study with results: intertextuality - the rhetorical device known in both Arab and foreign cultures - has a well-known pragmatic function related to the aesthetic and intellectual enrichment of the text linked with various quotations; intertextuality can be utilized in cultural critical studies by establishing the systemic function it possesses. In light of a systemic reading of intertextuality in the message of Sahl ibn Harun on miserliness, it became evident that the writer challenged the image of Arabs by reversing the trait of generosity and placed it on a low moral scale. Therefore, The study recommends following Arabic rhetoric research and studying it within a new vision so that the procedural tools are effective in adopting cultural critique.
2024-07-31T14:26:05+08:00Asem Shehadeh Saleh Alimuhajir4@iium.edu.mySuad Saeed Ali Alduagishisaldugishi@css.edu.om
The spread of Islam in the Malay Archipelago has a significant impact on social change and the development of the Malay language, which is one of the languages spoken in the archipelago at this time. It is a global language that plays a major role in the spread of Islam in Malaysia and the neighboring countries of the archipelago. As for the Arabic language and the Malay language, they have the same position in linguistic communication. As this presence in language contact provides a balance between the two languages; which leads to exchange and interaction between them; As for the linguistic identity, it also has a role in uniting the different ethnicities in Malaysia through the Malay language. This study will follow the descriptive and analytical approach. The study aims to clarify the concept of national identity and its connection with the spirit of belonging, with the characteristics and features that it represents that distinguish Malaysians from their different ethnicities from other neighboring countries. Therefore, Malaysians show their personal characteristics as Malaysian citizens, to reflect the civilized image of Malaysia. In addition, this paper shows the influence of Islam on the development of the Malay language and the influence of the Islamic dimension from several aspects, including writing, translation, education, and borrowed Arabic vocabulary in the Malay language in the religious aspect. This made the Malay language carry Islamic dimensions in it, which led to a change in the Malaysian people's view of life and helped to unify them through the national identity from the linguistic side according to the Islamic point of view.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, MALAYSIA
