Kata Ganti Diri dalam Surah ‘Abasa Menurut ‘Inayatullah Subhani

Abstract

There are many Quranic verses praising the noble traits of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. However, the interpretation of the first verse of surah 'Abasa contradicts with those noble traits of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. It is narrated that the Prophet s.a.w showed a frown face while preaching at Abdullah bin Ummi Maktum, a blind man as compared to the Quraish infidel leaders. The majority of mufassirs quoted that the personal pronoun in the first verse of surah 'Abasa refers to the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. This view, however, was re-evaluated by Muhammad 'Inayatullah Asad Subhani. Thus, this study review and analyse his arguments related to the interpretation of the first verse of surah 'Abasa through his work 'Aqd al-Juman fi Taqwim Tadabbur Al-Quran. This study used documentation methods which are normative, comparative, deductive and inductive content analysis. The researcher concluded that 'Inayatullah Subhani has made seven arguments in denying Rasulullah s.a.w as the fa'il (perpetrator) in the first verse of Surah 'Abasa. Instead, he referred the infidel leaders of Quraish as the ones who frowned to the blind man. This study subjects to expand in examining the thoughts of 'Inayatullah Subhani in his Quran interpretation works as well as to be able to critically examine the narrations related to asbab al-nuzul.
