Abstract

Gamete production is a naturally occurring process. Gametes are produced through specific process termed gametogenesis. Gametogenesis refers to both the production of male and female gametes. Human sperm cells derived from a process called spermatogenesis, meanwhile ovum cells are produced through a process named oogenesis. Even the production of both gamete cells are basically from normal physiological events, but with the advancement in current technology especially in the field of medical science has enable some discoveries on the possibility to ‘create’ both sperm and ovum cells in the laboratories for medical and research purpose. Thus, this eye-opening finding has opened up a huge debate with vast disagreements aroused from the diversity in the religious belief, values in life and ethics of humanity among scholars. This article, in discussion further detail with regards to the consent and views from the aspect of syariah and Islamic faith.
