Ethnic migration is not a new issue. Many ethnic groups have migrated and formed their diaspora around the world. By the same token, ethnic migration has also occurred, and still occurring, in the Malaysian State of Sabah. In the beginning, the people of Sabah were natives of a few ethnicities. They soon developed and formed into multi-ethnic groups due to the migration. This study intends to analyze the migration of dominant ethnic Muslims from the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei that contributed to the formation of multiple Muslim ethnics in Sabah. This study was conducted using the content analysis approach. Research data were analyzed descriptively and arranged thematically. This study found that there were various dominant Muslim ethnic groups from these countries that were migrated and formed their diaspora in Sabah. This has contributed to the formation of the multi-ethnic Muslims in Sabah. The ethnic groups are the Brunei Malays and the Kedayans, the Javanese and the Bugis of Indonesia, and the Philippine ethnic groups of Kegayan, Bajau, Iranun and Suluk. This ethnic diversity is one of the uniqueness of Sabah. Eventhough the people of Sabah are made up of different ethnic groups, yet they could live together in harmony. Sabah is regarded as the exemplar for the concept of 1Malaysia. Thus, Malaysia in general, and Sabah in particular, they both could be the model of harmonious intergration for other multi-ethnic countries.
