Abstract

The batik handicrafts not only represent cultural identity but also have the potential to empower the economy of the community. Through innovation, the heritage of batik craft can be further developed to enhance the economic sector while preserving local heritage. This study aims to identify innovations in batik production as well as examine the factors that hinder and encourage the innovation of batik entrepreneurs, in addition to seeing how these efforts are aligned with consumerism principles for the economic progress of the Ummah. Through qualitative methods, the analysis of 12 batik craftsmen revealed three main innovations in patterns, manufacturing methods, and marketing. These innovations help overcome challenges such as reliance on intermediaries, unpopular patterns, high manufacturing costs, and limited marketing. Conversely, potential innovations include more contemporary pattern changes, cost savings, and digital marketing. This study serves as a recommendation for policies that support innovation in traditional crafts to strengthen the economy of the Ummah in accordance with Islamic principles while preserving local cultural heritage.
